KTM has built a strong reputation worldwide for producing motorcycles that combine raw performance with everyday usability. Among its most exciting offerings is the SMC R lineup, designed specifically for riders who love supermoto-style agility, sharp handling, and adrenaline-packed performance. With the upcoming KTM 390 SMC R (2025), the brand is bringing its popular mid-capacity platform into the supermoto world, aimed at riders who want the perfect mix of stunt-ready fun and city practicality.

Design and Styling

The KTM 390 SMC R will carry forward the aggressive design language that KTM is known for, but with supermoto-specific touches. Expect a high-mounted front fender, minimalist bodywork, and a slim profile for easy maneuverability. The riding ergonomics will be upright, with a wide handlebar that ensures maximum control.

Design highlights include:

Sharp LED headlamp inspired by the larger SMC R models.

Slim seat design for quick rider movement while cornering.

High ground clearance with sporty, lightweight bodywork.

Bold graphics showcasing KTM’s trademark orange-black-white color scheme.\

Engine and Performance

At the heart of the 390 SMC R will be KTM’s new-gen 399cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine—the same platform used in the updated 390 Duke and RC 390. This engine is expected to deliver around 44–46 hp of power and 39 Nm of torque, making it one of the most powerful supermotos in the mid-capacity range.

Coupled with a 6-speed gearbox and a slipper clutch with quickshifter, the 390 SMC R promises thrilling acceleration, controlled wheelies, and effortless gear changes. The lightweight construction will make it perfect for city rides, stunt practice, and twisty backroads.

Chassis and Suspension

The 390 SMC R will use a lightweight trellis frame with a bolt-on rear subframe, optimized for stability and flickable handling. Being a supermoto, it will feature long-travel suspension for tackling uneven roads and aggressive cornering.

WP Apex upside-down forks (adjustable) in the front.

WP monoshock (adjustable preload and rebound) at the rear.

17-inch alloy wheels with sticky road-biased tires for maximum grip.

Features and Technology

KTM has been pushing advanced features even in smaller displacement bikes, and the 390 SMC R will be no exception. Expected equipment includes:

TFT color display with smartphone connectivity.

All-LED lighting system.

Ride modes (Street, Rain, Supermoto mode).

Switchable traction control.

Dual-channel ABS with Supermoto mode (rear ABS can be disabled for slides and drifts).

Quickshifter+ for clutchless upshifts and downshifts.

Expected Price and Launch

The KTM 390 SMC R is expected to debut globally in late 2025, with an Indian launch likely in early 2026. Pricing is estimated at Rs.3.3 lakh – Rs.3.6 lakh (ex-showroom, India), positioning it slightly above the 390 Duke due to its supermoto-focused hardware and suspension.
