The Dolphin's exterior design, inspired by marine life, is a departure from traditional hatchback aesthetics. The car measures 4,290 mm in length, making it ideal for navigating crowded city streets while still providing a surprisingly spacious cabin.
Inside, the interior is dominated by BYD's signature 12.8-inch electrically rotatable touchscreen, which serves as the hub for all infotainment and vehicle controls. This intuitive display, along with a minimalist dashboard and vegan leather upholstery, gives the cabin a clean, futuristic feel. This LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery is known for its durability and resilience. While multiple battery options exist globally, the Indian model is expected to feature a 60.48 kWh battery pack. This provides a claimed NEDC range of up to 490 km, ensuring a worry-free driving experience for both daily commutes and longer trips. The electric motor delivers a robust 150 kW (204 PS) of power, allowing the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in a swift 7 seconds.
Safety and Market Positioning
Safety is a top priority for the Dolphin, which has earned a 5-star safety rating from Euro NCAP. It is equipped with a comprehensive suite of advanced safety features, including Autonomous Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Blind Spot Detection. These features provide a high level of protection, making it a secure choice for families.
The BYD Dolphin is officially expected to be launched in India in September 2025. With an estimated ex-showroom price ranging from Rs 10.00 Lakh to Rs 12.00 Lakh, the Dolphin will directly compete with models such as the Tata Tiago EV and Citroen eC3.
