Citroen is poised to make a strong statement in the Indian SUV market with the upcoming launch of the Citroen Aircross X. This is not an entirely new model but a strategic, feature-packed top-tier variant of the existing C3 Aircross. By introducing this new trim, Citroen aims to directly address the one major criticism of the C3 Aircross: its lack of premium features. Following the successful introductions of the Basalt X and C3X, the Aircross X is set to elevate the brand's three-row SUV offering.

A Host of Premium Features

The most significant change in the Aircross X is its extensive list of new features, many of which are now considered standard in its competitive segment. These additions are designed to enhance convenience, comfort, and safety. Key upgrades are expected to include:

* Technology & Convenience: The Aircross X will likely come equipped with a 360-degree camera for easier parking, a push-button start/stop system with keyless entry, and cruise control.

* Enhanced Comfort: A major highlight will be the inclusion of ventilated front seats, a highly sought-after feature that is a boon for the Indian climate. The cabin is also expected to feature a refreshed design with new upholstery and a more modern dashboard layout.

* Safety: Safety has been a key focus, with the Aircross X likely to feature six airbags on the top trims, alongside other crucial safety systems like Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) and Hill-Hold Assist.

* Design: On the outside, expect to see new full-LED headlamps, LED fog lamps, and updated styling elements that give the Aircross X a more premium look. The new model is also rumored to come with a new in-car virtual assistant, "Cara," offering enhanced voice-control functionality.

No Change in Powertrain

The Aircross X will retain the same mechanical underpinnings that have been a strong point for the C3 Aircross. It will continue to be powered by the 1.2-liter turbocharged petrol engine, which produces 110 PS and 205 Nm of torque. Customers will have the choice between a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. Reports also suggest that Citroen is working on a CNG variant of the Aircross, which will be a significant value proposition for customers prioritizing running costs.

Launch Timeline and Pricing

The Citroen Aircross X is expected to be launched in India during the upcoming festive season. As the new top-tier variant, its price will be positioned above the current Aircross lineup. While an official price has not been announced, it is anticipated to start from around Rs 10.25 lakh (ex-showroom). Recent GST reforms have also led to price reductions on existing Citroen models, which could make the Aircross X an even more attractive value proposition upon launch.
