Citroen is poised to electrify the Indian market with the highly anticipated launch of the Basalt EV. Following the recent introduction of its petrol counterpart, the Basalt EV is a strategic move by the French automaker to directly compete in the burgeoning electric coupe-SUV segment, a space currently spearheaded by the Tata Curvv EV. The Basalt EV combines a striking, unique design with advanced electric technology, promising a compelling option for eco-conscious buyers.
Distinctive Design with an Electric Edge
While sharing the same silhouette as the petrol Basalt, the EV version features subtle but important design changes that highlight its zero-emission identity. The most notable difference is the revised front fascia, which replaces the traditional grille with a smooth, closed-off panel for enhanced aerodynamics and a clean, futuristic look. The charging port is discreetly located on the left rear fender. The EV will retain the Basalt's signature coupe-like roofline, split headlamp design, and stylish wraparound LED taillights. New aero-efficient alloy wheels will also be part of the package, helping to maximize its range.
A Smart and Feature-Rich Cabin
The interior of the Basalt EV is expected to be a modern and tech-focused space. The centerpiece will be the 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which comes with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The digital instrument cluster will be specifically tailored for an electric vehicle, displaying key information such as battery charge, power consumption, and regenerative braking levels. The Basalt EV is also expected to offer a comprehensive list of comfort and convenience features, including:

The Citroen Basalt EV is anticipated to be equipped with a robust electric powertrain. The rumored 35 kWh battery pack will power a single electric motor, with a projected output of around 100 bhp. This setup is expected to deliver an impressive NEDC-rated range of up to 450 km on a single full charge, placing it as a strong contender in its segment. The vehicle will also support DC fast charging, allowing the battery to be replenished from 10% to 80% in under an hour.
India Launch, Pricing, and Competition
The Citroen Basalt EV is expected to make its official debut in India in late 2025. It will be positioned as a premium electric offering, with an estimated ex-showroom price ranging from Rs 14 Lakh to Rs 17 Lakh. Its primary competitor will be the Tata Curvv EV, but it will also face competition from the Mahindra XUV400 and other electric SUVs in a similar price bracket. With its stylish design, long-range capabilities, and a host of modern features, the Basalt EV aims to carve out a significant space for itself in India's rapidly growing EV market.
