Citroen is poised to electrify the Indian market with the highly anticipated launch of the Basalt EV. Following the recent introduction of its petrol counterpart, the Basalt EV is a strategic move by the French automaker to directly compete in the burgeoning electric coupe-SUV segment, a space currently spearheaded by the Tata Curvv EV. The Basalt EV combines a striking, unique design with advanced electric technology, promising a compelling option for eco-conscious buyers.
Distinctive Design with an Electric Edge
While sharing the same silhouette as the petrol Basalt, the EV version features subtle but important design changes that highlight its zero-emission identity. The most notable difference is the revised front fascia, which replaces the traditional grille with a smooth, closed-off panel for enhanced aerodynamics and a clean, futuristic look. The charging port is discreetly located on the left rear fender. The EV will retain the Basalt's signature coupe-like roofline, split headlamp design, and stylish wraparound LED taillights. The Citroen Basalt EV is expected to make its official debut in India in late 2025. It will be positioned as a premium electric offering, with an estimated ex-showroom price ranging from Rs 14 Lakh to Rs 17 Lakh. Its primary competitor will be the Tata Curvv EV, but it will also face competition from the Mahindra XUV400 and other electric SUVs in a similar price bracket.
