Stellantis India, in partnership with Muskaan Foundation for Road Safety, has successfully kicked off the ‘Safe Journey’ campaign in Bengaluru, reinforcing its commitment to building safer mobility ecosystems across India’s most dynamic cities. The initiative brings together students, educators, and local authorities to transform road safety awareness into lasting community action.

A key highlight of the programme was its strong institutional support, with the campaign being carried out through the Commissioner of College Education, Government of Karnataka,Ms. N. Manjushree, IAS. She personally met with campaign representatives to understand its outreach and impact and appointed a nodal officer to ensure effective monitoring and smooth implementation.

The campaign rollout began with six Road Safety Orientation workshops across leading institutions, including Ramnarayan Chellaram College of Commerce and Management, and Government First Grade Colleges in Peenya, Kengeri, Malleshwaram, HSR Layout, and Devanahalli. These sessions directly engaged over 1,400 students and 50 faculty members, with ripple effects reaching more than 50,000 people through peer-led and community awareness activities.

To enhance engagement, student-led activities such as poster-making competitions and a social media reel challenge were organised, drawing enthusiastic participation. The initiative also extended beyond classrooms through impactful on-road campaigns. The first was held at Basaveshwara Circle, near the Governor’s residence, with active participation from the Bengaluru Traffic Police and students from Ramnarayan Chellaram College. Similarly, Government First Grade College, Malleshwaram, conducted a road safety drive at the busy Malleshwaram Junction.

Further, the Road Safety Club at Government First Grade College, Peenya, organised a special awareness session for over 200 students from a Pre-University College in the area, positioning college students as ambassadors of road safety and reinforcing a culture of safe mobility in the wider community.

“At Stellantis, we believe safety and education are the cornerstones of responsible mobility. Through ‘Safe Journey’, we are empowering Bengaluru’s youth not only to protect themselves but also to inspire safer habits among families and communities. This reflects our long-term commitment to nurturing a culture of safe and sustainable mobility across India,” said Shailesh Hazela, CEO and Managing Director, Stellantis India.

Road Safety Clubs have been established in all six participating colleges to sustain activities beyond the workshops. Two of these clubs have been set up in partnership with the Bengaluru Traffic Police, who will actively support awareness drives on campuses and in community spaces.

Neha Khullar, Director – Projects, Muskaan Foundation for Road Safety, added: “This campaign is about turning knowledge into leadership. By enabling students to take charge as role models, we are building a ripple effect that extends far beyond campuses. The Bengaluru chapter reflects how education and collaboration can spark positive change on our roads.”

To ensure impact, the programme uses pre- and post-training assessments to measure learning outcomes. A dedicated WhatsApp group connects coordinators of all six Road Safety Clubs, enabling them to share ideas, resources, and activities, creating a continuous support system for sustained progress.

Bengaluru, known for its youthful energy and rapid urban growth, has witnessed a sharp rise in traffic complexity. In 2023 alone, the city recorded 4,974 accidents and 915 fatalities, ranking second among India’s million-plus cities. Vulnerable road users, especially youth, pedestrians, cyclists, and two-wheeler riders, remain a key focus of this behavioural-focused programme.

This initiative underscores Stellantis India’s commitment to not just automotive excellence, but also to the well-being of the communities it serves. With Bengaluru leading the way, the ‘Safe Journey’ campaign is set to expand to other dynamic cities across India, reinforcing the importance of safety, education, and collaboration in building a better future on the roads.
